Diadem Edge 18K Textured Carbon Fiber Pickleball Paddle

Full video review of the Diadem 18K Textured Carbon Fiber Pickleball Paddle!

From the moment we set eyes on the Diadem Edge 18K Carbon Fiber Paddle, one thing jumped out at us...the 3D 18K Carbon Fiber face material. Spanning the entire 11.1" x 7.5" face, this carbon hitting surface uses Triaxial carbon fiber to create a confidence-inspiring geometric visual, unparalleled grit for spin, and a stiffer, stronger, and longer lasting performance than other carbon fiber hitting surfaces. This technology is highlighted and protected by the Edge Shield Pro edge guard that further inspires confidence in the hand, while enhancing longevity on the court.

While the 3D 18K hitting surface is stronger and able to add spin regardless of launch angle, it is also lighter. This allows Diadem to better control the 8-ounce average weight of the Edge 18K paddle. A 16mm (0.63") thick honeycomb polymer core backs up the impressive hitting surface with an expansive sweet spot, dampened sound, and plenty of feedback. Meanwhile, the compact 5.3" long handle allows you to reload quickly near the kitchen, and strike everything from passing shots to overhead put-aways smack dab in the middle of the generous sweet spot.

Actual grip sizes may vary up to 1/8"

This is the first paddle in several where I really felt a difference. After playing for several years, I still would randomly pop one up or hit one too far when I hit the sweet spot, and my top spin shots were going a bit high. I purchased the Edge to find a softer game with more control. Playing with it the first time I couldn't believe how completely different the paddle was, I had to make efforts to hit it a little harder and the drops and angles were more severe than usual. Now after two full sessions, I'm totally convinced the paddle is the absolute best for me. My drives are still strong enough, but my control is light years better. My top spin stays low and drops rapidly, I don't seem to randomly pop one long and my dinks are easy to control. The diagonals are deadly and new shots are appearing. Love the paddle and can't wait to play the next match.

Let me start by saying this paddle performs amazingly. The amount of spin you’re able to generate on the ball is second to none. The carbon fiber weave literally chews up the ball forcing you to have to clean the face after each use. It has great touch and a generous sweet spot, even for off-center hits. I feel very confident around the nvz with my dinks, great for resets, and good power (not great). I liked it enough that I actually bought two (one for my significant other and one for me because we both liked it). So why only four stars? 1) the handle is fairly short. I have a one handed backhand, but I probably wouldn’t like this paddle if I played a two handed backhand. 2) for $230, the handle seems fairly cheaply made and wrapped with a lower quality material around the handle. After using for about two weeks, it was already getting fairly slick. 3) again, for $230, I would have expected it to arrive in some sort of case, or box and have some sort of neoprene cover. This was not the case. It literally showed up in a large manilla, bubble wrapped envelope. It was crammed into my mailbox by the postman. I was shocked that Pickleball Central would have shipped a $230 paddle across the country in an envelope! It had two holes in the envelope when it arrived. I was NOT happy and feel like Pickleball Central really dropped the ball on this one. 4) not great power. I realize it’s a control paddle, but there are several other 16mm paddles that have way more power and still have good touch. I’d give this paddle 3 stars for power (that’s probably being generous). But again, I bought two of them, so that should tell you something. And if you have good ground strokes and good power, you really don’t need that extra pop that you’d get from a fiberglass, or thinner paddle. Hope this helps!
