Wide sweet spot and 14mm SST core re-developed for ultimate power and incredible spin, while retaining thick-core control.

Midweight/Small Grip

Gearbox CX14H Carbon Fiber Power Paddle

Innovative to the Core, the Gearbox CX14H Power Paddle pairs a maneuverable edgeless shape with the stability of a 14mm core to provide an all-court feel that we know we can trust. Offensively this paddle plays packed with power, while the precise balance and 8” width means we can trust it when blocking and playing defensively as well.

Benefits

Power Band Technology – Surrounds and suspends the core to provide additional rebound for pop and a plush feel for added control.

Solid Span Technology (SST) – Vertically ribbed 14mm core adds dwell time and helps grip the ball to supplement the high-spin face while cushioning impact and expanding the sweet spot.

3K Woven Carbon Fiber Hitting Surface – Covering the face and perimeter of the CX14H, this rigid material increased dwell time, adds torsion control, and provides long lasting durability.

HyperBite 2.0 Spin Technology – Technically a combination of all of these features, it is also a name for the textured urethane top coat that adds extra tack and grip for impressive spin.

I like the paddle feel it is heavier than my last gearbox. It took awhile to get used to the feel but love playing with it now.

  • Gearbox CX14 Ultimate Power vs Original Gearbox CX14

I had the previous version of the CX-14. Overall, the new (Ultimate) version is a better paddle for me. I'll write this assuming you already know about Gearbox paddles in general and the CX14 in particular (lots of good reviews available for it). This review is coming from the perspective of someone who liked the original CX14. Pros * I agree with Gearbox's claim that the sweet spot is bigger * The paddle is 1/2 ounce heavier but the big difference is that weight is in the head improving the sweet spot and increasing the swing weight which is where the power comes from (Gearbox will also say there is a design change involving a trampoline effect) * My original CX14 did not have the gritty surface (they do now) and this one does * Overall the paddle is definitely more powerful and I am able to generate more power and spin with less effort than the original CX14 Cons * It is heavier and the swing weight is greater. I have suffered from tennis elbow in the past and Gearbox paddles absorb shock well. That being said with improper technique this paddle is more likely to exacerbate tennis elbow versus the original CX14 so the original will still have it's place for some people * Hand speed at the net is a bit slower * Not sure why $250 versus $200 except people like me will pay it. For me the upgrade was worth it especially for serves and ground strokes and mid-court volleys. I also like it for drop shots. The touch is still very good and a true power paddle user might still consider this a control paddle.

I love my old Gearbox CX14 Paddle(Red) but when the new CX14H Ultimate Power paddle came out I felt I needed a bit more power to my game and this new paddle delivers it all. My old Gearbox CX14(Red) I had to put lead tape on the edge to give me more weight to generate more power. The newly designed CX14H Ultimate Power is my new go to paddle. I'll have to keep the old CX14(Red) as a back up paddle. Very happy with this purchase!

I started playing pickleball last year and was using an inexpensive Champion Sports Rhino Apex Pickleball Paddle (fiberglass) paddle that I bought on Amazon. It was a good paddle to start learning with. Then a friend let me use his Head Extreme Tour Lite (graphite) paddle. Wow, that made a big difference in my serve and my game improved greatly. Then I looked into Gearhead paddles and found the CX14H and thought about buying it. I waited a bit and they just came out with an upgraded version the CX14H Ultimate power (Carbon Fiber). I made the investment for several reasons and I am so over the top happy that I ordered this paddle. What I really like about it: 1. It really increased my hitting power. I am a senior female in pretty good shape, but I was lacking the power to make fast hits. This paddle givers me so much more power - I immediately felt a difference and one of the main reasons I love this paddle. 2. The sweet spot is pretty much the whole paddle. I don’t always hit right in the center, but with this paddle, even if I hit outside the center, I still get in a great, solid hit! 3. The grip is fantastic. I got the smallest grip 3-5/8”. I was having trouble really holding my paddle solidly because both the Champion and Head paddle were too large for my hands. I love this Grearhead grip because I can really wrap my fingers around it without having to hold really tight. It is super comfortable to hold, but has also really helped with my hits and direction. 4. It has a really great texture. I am not at the point that I can spin the ball very often, but I think the texture will eventually make me a better player. 5. No edge which I really think makes a difference if you do hit on the edge of the paddle. And it looks so nice too! 6. I love the black handle and the overall look of the paddle is really nice. I didn’t want something too flashy. I love the simple, unique graphics. It was an expensive paddle, but as a dedicated beginner who plays 4-7 days a week it was totally worth the money. I absolutely love this paddle and worth every penny!!! I was glad that Pickleball Central has a 30-day return policy in case I didn’t like the paddle. I won’t be sending it back, but there is always that option if you use it and don’t like it. I think you will love it! Since I live in Oregon I received the paddle in 2-days. I was so happy to get it that quickly!!!
