For when you want the control of a carbon fiber paddle that plays solid and consistent with a sweet spot in the dead center of the paddle.

Middleweight/Small Grip

adidas ESSNOVA CARBON CTRL HD Pickleball Paddle

The adidas ESSNOVA paddles utilize a forgiving "Carbon 3K" face material and thicker-than-average 14.28mm (0.56") thick poly honeycomb core, resulting in wonderful control and feel. This CARBON CTRL HD (meaning, "control, high-density) injects a small measure power, too, by using the same high-density core from adidas' ADIPOWER series of paddles. This further translates to consistent ball response over nearly the entire paddle face. The result? A highly control-oriented paddle with enough power to get your ground strokes deep into your opponent's side of the court.

The adidas ESSNOVA CTRL HD paddle also features "Spin Blade" technology for great ball movement on your cuts and slices, and carbon reinforcement in the frame for durability. It is a traditionally-shaped paddle and stays in the 7.7 to 8.2 oz. weight range like adidas' other models. Consider this an all-court paddle for those who prioritize defense first, and put-away power second. Finally, the CTRL HD is offered with a small grip circumference of 4-1/8" and a standard handle length of 4-3/4".

The ESSNOVA CARBON CTRL HD Pickleball Paddle by adidas is designed for an intermediate-to-advanced player's game.

Actual grip sizes may vary up to 1/8".

I started playing pickleball recently. This paddle seems to perform well. Sometimes I miss hitting the ball. I can’t be sure if my paddle has a larger surface I might avoid missing some balls. I need to try more paddles to be sure.

  • No Adjustment Period Needed

I played with the ESSNOVA CARBON CTRL HD on 2 occasions to give it a proper test and found it to be an easy transition from a slightly lighter paddle. I first noticed how my hand cradled the handle from the larger end cap keeping my hand secure in place where it should be without any slippage. The griptape on the handle has a lot of texture to it to prevent sweating. It may be one of the lesser features when looking for qualities in a good paddle but it means a lot to me. The smooth surface finish is a cool touch and didn't blemish so far. I rate myself a 3.0 ability so to be able to say that the paddle felt like a "power" paddle or a "control/touch" paddle I cannot differentiate. When I listen to others after they try a new paddle there seems to be a period of adjustment. Either they need to lighten up on their power when hitting a long stroke, or they have to get used to the feel of the paddle. I did not need an adjustment period to feel control. The paddle was great for intermediate play, an all around comfortable fit for myself. I would definitely consider this paddle for purchase.

  • Effective At The Net

Solid paddle. Similar in power to the ADIPOWER ATTK. Shape gives slightly larger sweet spot, though. Was exceptional in smashing or driving the ball. However, it seemed to also handle resetting off power drives or smashes very effectively. Handling was very good - grip was comfortable and felt good with the paddle face on contact. Ground stroke came off very well - and they did not appear to be overly influenced by the spin of the ball on contact. Thus not a lot of adjustment in ground stroke required with encountering spin returns. Paddle was very effective at the net - touch felt correct when dinking and in speed ups at the net. Paddle felt very solid when meeting the ball in the center sweet spot of the paddle - on smashes, drives and drops. Overall looks are good. This paddle was also tried out for several games by others with comments mirrored above. Solid, good paddle for experienced player. This paddle also caught players immediate attention, and "I didn't know Adidas made paddles" was heard the minute they saw I was using it.

  • Very Comfortable, Just Solid

This paddle, on the "Approved" list of USA Pickleball, seemed to offer something for both the "power" as well as the "control" player. It's built in the more traditional 8" x 16" size, and the sweet spot seems centered. It had a good "pop" when striking for power, yet it also felt good when making softer dinks and drops. The grip felt very comfortable and the entire paddle just felt solid, with minimal vibration. The color scheme of the paddle is also pretty distinctive. The paddle played really well. Because of its solid construction, it seemed like an extension of my arm with great balance and minimal drag. I was pleasantly surprised at the good control, especially since the paddle face has more of a smooth finish, rather than the rougher surfaces so prevalent today. It's nice to see a great name like Adidas getting into pickleball with a seemingly solid lineup of paddles.

  • An Extension of Your Arm

In general, this paddle has excellent power characteristics along with considerable control when needed during touch shots. The paddle surface allowed for spin control and had good feel when engaged in dinking. The sweet spot is centered and feels good through the grip - you know when you hit the ball right and can sense the ball exploding from the paddle just as you feel the ball firmly leave on your push dinks with control, and if spinning the return you sense the feel of ball contact and the sensation of your added spin. The grip is very good - no issue playing in warm humid weather - the grip remained tactile with no loss of control because of sweaty hands. The paddle while striking the ball was like an extension of your arm. It provided the sensation of the hit effectively to your arm without any vibration. Thus a great sense of feel for the shot. This paddle fits the mold of a paddle for intermediate to advanced players and would certainly provide a great weapon for those players. You are getting a lot - without giving up much. A flexible weapon on the courts fitting a variety of game situations.
